Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson as an ironworker from Chillicothe on February 20, 1937. She was the daughter of Lillian Ryan worked as housekeeper. Nancy was the eldest of six children. Nancy loved listening to records from her father as well as his passion for music. At the age of four, Nancy knew she would be a singer. The talent she had developed was discovered through singing in the church choir. In high school, she appeared regularly with Skyline Melodies. In the nightclubs she started singing at the age of 15. Following her graduation from high school at the age of 17, Nancy took a class for a semester at the Ohio's Central State College now Central State University prior to going on to become an accomplished musician. She recorded her first record with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. They performed from 1956 until 1958. Nancy's initial Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball advised her to relocate into New York and go to The Big Town to further her singing career. Within one month, she got an offer to sing in The Blue Morocco Night Club on Boston Road in The Bronx which was where her agent was introduced to her voice and agreed to sign her. The contract was signed with Capitol records in 1960, and she debuted that year with the single. Guess who saw today. Her albums were a hit and Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Under the direction of Cannonball Adderley, Wilson began concentrating on R&B and then shifted her focus towards torch and jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped make her a star and her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. Following that year the release, she was being booked at the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
