The jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award-winner was born on February 20 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was the youngest born child at the age of 6. Nancy grew up listening to the records of her father and his passion for music. When she was young, she already had an idea of her identity and what she wanted to do. Church choirs helped develop her talent. The show was on television at the age of 15 and started performing regularly on the tv series Skyline Melodies while still in high school. At nightclubs, she began performing at the age of 15. Nancy, then 17, graduated from high-school and matriculated at Ohio Central State College (now Central State University) for one year, before deciding to become a singer. The first time she recorded was with Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, with whom she performed between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's very first Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Big Band of Carolyn Club. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she move into New York so as to improve her career. In 1959 Nancy made the move to The Big Town. Within a short time, she was singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. The representative of Adderley saw her singing and instantly signed her. In 1960, she was signed to Capitol Records. That same year she issued her first single. Guess who? Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. She initially focused on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence she moved away from R&B and began to embrace the torch and jazz genres. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to make her a star and her hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. In the year following it led to her being booked at the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
