Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, an ironworker, as well as Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the youngest of six children. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball advised her to make the move into New York and go to The Big Town for the rest of her professional career. After a few weeks after, her manager was impressed by her voice and hired her. It was a contract with Capitol Records in 1960. The year was 1960 when she released her first single. Guess who I saw today. Capitol published five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Following the influence of Adderley she shifted her focus to R&B to jazz. Nancy Wilson's 1962 collaboration with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top of the charts, and in 1963, she had her first success with Tell Me the Truth. This brought her a gig at New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America in the year following and she quickly became a legend.
